The clients at this West London project were a pleasure to work for in their recent renovation of their new home.  We were drafted in at a critical stage of the build, after most of the cabling had been run - we had to act quickly.

Meeting the clients, architects and electrical contractors on site with plans, the very next day after initial introduction by a previous client of ours, we discussed ideas on what types of systems they were looking for and their AV and control habits.  We found the rotary dimming lighting system that had been wired for could be vastly improved upon by splitting lamp and ceiling lighting circuits and using a smart lighting system from Lutron.  Given the limitations, a wireless based system was used, which greatly improved flexibility without the additional cost of making any wiring changes.  Cabling plans were quickly drawn for the electricians to add the data and speaker cabling at the first fix stage giving us a range of solutions to the client's needs.

What makes this home smart?

The fully integrated Control4 system can control all of the technologies inside the home, even when from when outside home, via the iPhone or iPad app.  The key for simple control from any room is the integration between the Lutron wall panels, which control the lighting and can also control anything the Control4 system can, such as the blinds, TV or Sonos music system.  This makes selection of favourite radio stations, music playlists or TV channels a breeze by using a button on the nearby wall.

A 'House Off' button by the front door ensures all lights and AV systems are off when leaving and can also lower blinds and set room temperatures if required. A 'Welcome' button also turns on lighting, can set temperature and even select different music dependent on the time of day.

The specification for the whole-home system includes:

  • Heatmiser under-floor heating control in all rooms
  • + Individual and grouped control of the Somfy pinoleum blinds
  • + Wireless Control4 handsets for control of all the above systems
  • + Remote network and internet systems monitoring from Domotz
  • + Structured data and TV cabling with robust WiFi connectivity throughout
  • Lutron controlled lighting via dimming wall panels and additional keypads
  • Sonos streamed audio system with discrete in-ceiling speakers
  • + High Definition TV video distribution of centralised sources

The client was especially pleased with the delivered project and has these kind words to say:

Alex came to our house renovation on the advice and strong recommendation of a friend. We had started the electrics and wiring working with the architect before Alex came. He was able to rationalise and hugely improve the lighting, sound and internet systems. He worked very constructively and helpfully with the architect and the contractor. It was a pleasure to work with Alex. He did a wonderful job, very tidy and precise, but best of all making it simple to operate and explaining how it works so well.

I know that our architect was very impressed as well and has asked Alex to help him on other projects. I would recommend Alex very enthusiastically and without any reservation.
